Shortly after Jon's 2007 Lemans Blue Z51 Corvette caught fire in an accident in June of 2010 things were looking kind of down.  Work was slow and as bad as Jon wanted to run out and find a replacement for his baby he knew the smart thing to do was wait out the slow times until he found some steady work.  An opportunity to move from Chicago to California for a new job came up and he jumped on it.  During the year that Jon was living in Cali, he found an Electron Blue 2002 C5 Z06 with 26,000 miles on it for sale in Northern California on Corvette Forum.  He fell in love with it immediately after flying out there to check it out and drove it home!  The Z06 was nicely modded with a Vararam Intake, Mild Cam and Heads package(to pass California Emmisions), Belanger Headers, Corsa X-Pipe with high flow cats, and a modified titanium exhaust with the bypass mod.  With this selection of mods the car made 387 rear wheel horsepower and 387 rear wheel torque.  This was a good start but this power wasn't going to be enough for long...

ShockerRacing first met Spdkilz, Carleton, through a mutual friend one summer day in 2003.  It was a ShockerRacing.com track day and we were heading out to a test and tune night at Route 66 Raceway.  He was this skinny punk kid with long scraggly hair covered by trucker hat(thanks Ashton Kutcher).  Our first thought was does daddy know that this kid stole his Z06 to take it to the drag strip?  We made our way out to Route 66 to get some runs in and of course had a little fun on the way up there.  Once we arrived at the track we had the chance to talk with Carleton, we began to realize that this kid was truly a Corvette enthusiast.  He had done many custom mods to his Vette that we had not seen before.  This C5 was his baby and it was clear that he had spent countless hours getting to know his Z06.  He had his own website for the Vette, www.spdkilz.com, which featured some amazing photos he had taken of the Vette along with tech tips on how to do some awesome custom mods.  Many people knew the site for his write-ups on the interior LED lighting installs, showing people how to replace the boring off-white lights that fill the C5 interior.  At the time he just had an intake and a Speed Inc. Tune done but had much bigger plans for the future of Spdkilz...

The latest photoshoot by our friend Stephani over at Chromalusion Photography features Mandy and her 2012 Chevrolet Camaro.  Mandy is a 32 year old competitive bodybuilder and owns her own business doing floral and interior design and is from Franklin, NC.  She tells us that she likes cars that are fast... we took this to mean that she likes cars that resemble her... strong and sexy!!! Mandy has been an automotive enthusiast for years and surprisingly has left her Camaro stock...for now.  More pics coming soon but hit the jump to see all of the pics.

Shortly after the announcement that General Motors is increasing the price of the new C7 Corvette by $2000 due to extremely high demand, SRT has announced that production will halt on the Viper beginning April 14th.  Production will remain paused until June 23rd to help move some of the current inventory that is sitting on dealers lots.  This comes not long after SRT had cut production from 9 units per day to 6 per day. SRT had sold just 91 units for for all of January and February.

This annual gathering of horsepower-aholics began in 1999 in Houston with a few dozen cars attending. The first sponsor was MVP Motorsports (www.mvpmotorsports.com) and the event was actually named “The Supra Nationals” to celebrate Toyota’s iconic sports car and the main type of car that attended. Over the years the event has grown incredibly and now encompasses five days showcasing several events. If you like fast cars, then this is the event for you. The event includes Drag Racing, Roll Racing, Dyno Shootout, cruising and even a bikini contest!

The news of a huge sinkhole swallowing 8 Corvettes today at the Corvette Museum in Bowling Green, KY! It's a sad day but we chose to have some fun with it!

UPDATE 2/13/14: The National Corvette Restorers Society(NCRS) has released a statement saying that the cars will all be restored.  Many will be restored by NCRS Members!

UPDATE 2/14/14: Chevrolet has stepped up and stated that they will help with the restoration of all of the cars damaged in the Sinkhole.

Update 2/28/14: The Corvette Museum is set to begin removal of the cars from the sinkhole next week, starting with the Blue Devil ZR1.

Update 3/3/14: The Corvette Museum removed the Blue Devil ZR1 and the damage is not too bad.  The ZR1 fired up on its first try after removal.  They also removed the Ruby Red Corvette and unfortunately it was not as lucky.  It will be sent out to begin restoration immediately.

This past weekend, I had the opportunity to attend the newly formed Viper Owners Association(VOA) of Illinois Winterfest Club meeting as a guest of Luddy's (a current SR Member as well as a current VOA member).  Luddy had been asked to bring his 2004 Paxton Supercharged Viper to the banquet and put it on display. He asked me if I would trailer it to Rosemont in exchange for giving me the opportunity to attend the VOA Club Meeting and see what the club is all about.  We delivered the Viper to the Crown Plaza Hotel in Rosemont late Friday evening and were greeted by a friendly group of members ready to help us unload and get Luddy's boosted Viper inside the hall! Once inside the hall I got a sneak peak at the Anodized Carbon Special Edition Viper you see on the left.  This Viper is a limited production Viper GTS with a new Metallic Matte exterior...

The 2015 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 was unveiled this morning at the NAIAS in Detroit Michigan.  This unveiling confirmed that the long awaited C7 Z06 will have a Supercharged LT4 Engine making 625HP and 635TQ.  They also announced that it will be the first Z06 to offer a removable Carbon Fiber Roof Panel! It will also be offered with the 7 Speed Manual Transmission or with an Optional New GM Designed 8 Speed Automatic Transmission!
